Why I am not an Anti-Haecceitist

چکیده
Abstract In this paper I argue that if the Identity of Indiscernibles is not necessarily true, then Haecceitism ensues—where view there are maximal possibilities include all same qualitative possibilities, and yet differ with respect to non-qualitative they include. This goes against common intuition Anti-Haecceitism compatible being only contingently true. My argument interesting in many respects. First, it shows any modal framework a connection between number worldbound ordinary spatio-temporal objects, overall possibilities. Second, has repercussions for tenability some philosophical positions, like Generalism, which usually interpreted as entailing while at time claim If am correct, Generalism similar accounts turn out be inconsistent. Finally, provides strong Haecceitism, given majority authors today find counterexamples extremely convincing, positions have been continue criticised on basis their commitment Indiscernibles. The structured follows: introduce Sects. 1 2 respectively. Drawing result from Philosophy Quantum Mechanics, survey Sect. 3, give my main 4. discuss implications 5.

متن کاملWhy I am not a nominalist
Nominalists think there are no mathematical objects, henceforth, "numbers." Here is how the debate about nominalism has sometimes been presented. First there's the argument AGAINST, credited to Quine: numbers are indispensable to natural science, hence they exist. Then there's the argument FOR nominalism: they are not (indispensable) either, which leaves us no reason to think that they exist. I...

I have argued in a number of writings that the philosophical part (though not the neurobiological part) of the traditional mind-body problem has a fairly simple and obvious solution: All of our mental phenomena are caused by lower level neuronal processes in the brain and are themselves realized in the brain as higher level, or system, features. The form of causation is “bottom up,” whereby the...

Some of us make modest use of citation analysis in our work, 1 but remain radically skeptical of the claims of those who devote more prime time and energy to the elaboration of such methods. Why do we not accept the faith? Why can we not do the proper Kuhnian thing and let the “paradigmatic achievements” of the new quantitative methods define the field for us—posing our fundamental problems, la...

ions which are infinite and do not lend themselves to a constructivist interpretation-which make classical mathematics effective. One should try to imagine how much help mathematics could have provided twentieth century quantum physics if for the past hundred years it had developed using only abstractions from "constructive objects". Most likely, the standard calculationsions from "constructive...
